OneDrive - the online storage

If you are using a Microsoft account, you may see the word "OneDrive" once. So what is One Drive?

OneDrive, previous name is SkyDrive, Windows Live SkyDrive, and Windows Live Folders), is a file hosting service from Microsoft that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device. Microsoft users can share any file publicly or with their contacts; especially publicly shared files do not require a Microsoft account to access them, it means everyone who is shared can read, edit, download the files. In conclusion, OneDrive is free online storage that comes with your Microsoft account (Hotmail, Outlook.com, Skype account... are all Microsoft account), like an extra hard drive that’s available from any of the devices you use.

Each user will have 15 GB of free storage and it will increase to 1TB for for Office 365 paid subscribers.


So how to use OneDrive? First of all, you need a Microsoft account and Hotmail is one of them, let's visit hotmail sign up to create yourself one ;)

If you are using a computer with Windows version from 8.0 and higher, you can sign your Microsoft account in your computer when you install Windows, or in Store app (what already installed in your computer). When you open Store app, it will ask you for your Microsoft account, if you already have one, just enter it (Microsoft account has many domains @hotmail.com; @outlook.com; @msn.com; @live.com; @passport.com). After signing your Microsoft account, your computer will change the password to the password of your Microsoft account and you can access all products and site of Microsoft, and OneDrive will be automatically installed in your computer. To sync your files to OneDrive, just simple copy the files and paste it in OneDrive folder. These files will be automatically synced.

Open File Explorer (or My computer), choose OneDrive to see your files uploaded in OneDrive.

If you are using phone or tablet, you can download the app in Store of any OS (iOS, Android OS, Windows Phone OS), sign in and start upload files and photos from your devices.
Once your files are in OneDrive, you can access them anywhere you want with your account. Read, edit, download, invite people to share...
